AIRGLIDER

AIRGLIDER

Interactive cable ride with paraglide feeling
Maximum set up flexibility due to short cable spans / no ground space required
Capacity of over 300 rides per hour

The AIRGLIDER concept is based on short span cables, as long distances reduce the hourly capacity of rides. While long spans are used for descending rides, short spans are be used for ascending and reversing, which offer a very different experience. Additionally short spans have more flexible set up options.

Ride experience

Contrary to many rides seeking faster ride experiences, the AIRGLIDER provides the feeling of dynamically gliding through the air combined with interactive features and the thrill of height, just like a paraglider. The softness of all movements and the fast ascending ride upwards towards a building or tower top offers a unique new ride feeling.

The AIRGLIDER also constitutes a spectacular optical attraction as it pin points the park or site for miles around and leaves spectators fascinated all around, while riders soar through the air.

Technology

The AIRGLIDER uses simple and efficient mechanical technologies. The concept is based on making maxium use of short span cables for maximum capacity and economic return. The ride unit is controlled by a drive system, which allows a speed of up to 20 km/h (13 mph; comparable to bicycle speed) at a maxium angle of 25 °. The drive system can be programmed in terms of speed and direction sequence.

The ride time can be preset, which allows adapting to different queing situations. If the queing lines are long, the ride time can be reduced by changing movements and/or increasing speed. The key feature advantage of the AIRGLIDER is the drive upwards, as well as to programm the movement of the ride individually.

For example:
The ride unit can travel 2/3 cable lenght upward
                           then 1/3 cable lenght downwards
then 2/3 cable lenght to the top.

Hourly capacity

The ideal lenght is around 150 m. At full speed (5,5 m/s) the ride time up and down will be approx 55 seconds. Change of passengers adds 30 sec. (Unloading, loading)

Cycle time:                            85 seconds / 42 rides per hour
Size of ride unit (RU):            2         3         5 seater
Total rides:                            82       126      210

If the ride is one way (up or down) the hourly capacity can be greatly increased.

Cycle time:                            58 seconds / 62 rides per hour
Size of ride unit (RU):            2        3        5 seater
Total rides:                            124     186    310

Numbers vary slightly for different span lenghts.

Ride Unit

The ride unit is available as 2, 3 or 5 seater, constructed completely mechanical and has no electric components. Passengers are secured with a restraint bar and a lap belt. It is interactive, which means it can be controlled in several ways.
  • Rotation by a steering wheel
  • Swinging sideways by pulling a lever
  • Change of direction (programmable)
  • Front seat view for every rider (flexible seating i.e. Back to Back)
Modular system

The AIRGLIDER is a modular ride system, wich can be set up in various ways:

Building to Building
Ground to Tower/Pole/Building
Multiple lines on one tower

It is also possible to attached several lines to the same structure and have them point to different directions. The lines can run over streets, lakes, trees etc. The possibility to add more lines allows to adapt to economic success and growth. Due to the elevated landing stations, the ride uses needs only the ground space for the queing area.

Safety

All hardware is backed up entirely. Besides double cables and brakes, the ride works with simple mechanical functions, easy in operation and maintenance. The passengers are not only sitting in a safety frame, they also carry a lap belt to prevent STANDING up. The riders are not exposed to any strong physical forces or other abrupt movements. Also the ride units are equipped with a light grid tray to catch falling objects. The overal safety factor exceeds 10. The AIRGLIDER meets or exceeds EN/ASTM norms.
Worldwide safety approval guaranteed.
